Ministry goals

The main goal of our children’s ministry is to provide classes and activities that will help our children form a lasting relationship with Jesus Christ. We seek to ensure each class is staffed with a knowledgable leader with a passion for teaching God's word. Our hope is to make Three Chopt's children's programs a desirable environment for students from all walks of life, providing age-appropriate instruction as they journey through the stories of the Bible each week. We encourage parents to stay closely involved in the learning process, helping to feed and facilitate a steady education plan grounded in biblical principles that will eventually create a seamless transition for students from our children's ministry into the youth group.

Special events and resources

Children's library
Our children's library provides books, tapes, CDs and DVDs that may be checked out before and after services. We offer a summer reading program to encourage young readers and provide fun activities to help children increase their love for learning.

Getting involved: How can I help?

Volunteers:
The children's ministry is always looking for more volunteers. If you have an interest in working with the children of this church in any capacity (teaching bible class, leading children's church, activity planning, etc.), please contact BJ Marshall, our children's ministry deacon.

Parents:
The goal of our Children’s Education ministry is to provide classes and activities that will help our children form a lasting relationship with Jesus Christ. But, this ministry alone cannot achieve that goal; nothing is more important to the spiritual growth of a child than a positive example from a strong role model. For most children, that role model is a parent.

Below is a list of behaviors and activities that may help your child learn about the Bible and grow stronger in the Lord. Some of these you may already be doing, and some you may not. Decide for yourself if you think your child would benefit from any of the following:

  • Take your child to Bible class regularly
    Sunday mornings, 9:30 a.m. - infant through 5th grade
    Wednesday nights, 7:00 p.m. - infant through 5th grade

  • Ask your child about what they learned in class
It’s important for a parent to reinforce what is being taught at church, and for a child to see their parents take an interest.

  • Get to know your child’s Bible class teacher
Our teachers are dedicated to helping your child grow in the Lord. Talk with them to find out what your child is learning, and how you can build upon what is being taught in class.

  • Encourage your child to invite their friends to church
Help your child learn to evangelize at a young age. Try not to facilitate the habit of separating church life from home/school life.

  • Teach Bible stories and principles at home
Don’t let church be the only place where your child learns about God. Schedule a regular time to study with your child at home.

  • Pray with your child regularly
Teach your child how to talk to God. Show them that they can pray any time, not just at church or at meal times.

  • Encourage your child to participate in church activities
There are a variety of “extra curricular” activities available:
    - Bible Bowls (scheduled by host churches)
    - Children’s church (Sun. mornings during worship, 2 1/2 - 5 yrs)
    - Library (open Sun. and Wed., summer reading programs planned)
    - Vacation Bible School (summer)

  • Participate in acts of service with your child
Show your child that serving the Lord is a way of life, not just class attendance or membership with a church:
    - Take your child to visit someone who is hospitalized or home-bound
    - Write encouragement cards and ask your child to help
    - Bake cookies with your child and deliver them to a neighbor

There are endless opportunities; find something your child is interested in!
